GENDER EQUALITY ADVOCATE? KNOW YOUR OPPOSITION
"Women supporting women" can not be your mantra if your real mission is to contribute to the disruption of institutionalized misogyny. No. Feminism is not another kumbayah feminine cult.
To be clear, as a feminist, the first thing you want to avoid is allowing yourself to be guilt-tripped for sometimes having to bear down on women like yourself. Recognize the catchphrase "women are their own worst enemies" for what it is when people throw it at you: sentimental drivel.
You must understand that the custodians of the systems that oppress women are both men and women. In the process of pulling down strongholds that shut women out of their God-given and constitutionally approved privileges, you will need to come down hard on some women too.
Women who, through their insouciant dismissals of your gender equality campaigns, lend themselves to be used by misogyny; women who try to intimidate you for your chutzpah to live as a contrarian, for not obsessing over their obsessions; these women are as much your headache as misogynistic men are.
These women are patriarchy's lackeys. They, themselves, fettered by patriarchy but under the delusion of power conferred by marriage and age, go the extra mile to flay their fellow women with patriarchy's whip.
In the fight against female derogation, don't forget to take out the women who subject other vulnerable women to dehumanizing treatments; the household wives who shave off the hair of widows.
Remember women who act as mouthpiece for patriarchy, dictating what she should aspire to and the extent to which she can exercise her fundamental human rights.
Remember women who train their boys to be responsible men but train their girls to be responsible wives.
Remember women can not relate to other emotions aside from vulnerability and pain, and therefore don't know how to accept strong, stinking rich, independent women, so they conspire to pull them down with gossip and slut-shaming.
Remember that you have to deal with these ones, too.
Know the opposition. They aren't all wielding penises and biceps, many of them are wearing false lashes and lipsticks.
They are in your online circles.
They are your frenemies.
They are your friends
Your neighbours.
Your family.
Loving mom.
Women supporting women indeed. Don't support nonsense.
