ON THE MILLERIANA DRAMA: Late Mac Miller And Ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande

I didn't even know Mac Miller until I got news of his death today -I'm such a square. I know, I know. Yet what got me hooked on the news was the fact that he was Ariana Grande's ex-boyfriend (Ariana whom I so love because of her acting roles back then on Sam & Cat and VicTORIous on Nickelodeon. Although by now I have put most of Hollywood's glitz and drama behind me).

But where am I going with this?

I find it shocking that despite being engaged to someone else already, some folks are still blaming Ariana for Miller's death. Someone who reportedly died of substance overdose, an ex who has had an history of drug abuse, something which even culminated in their break-up. But they've all resorted to trolling her on social media. I'm taking this matter up on here not because I'm so hung up on Hollywood celebrity gist, but because this all  points to  a deeper social problem.

WOMEN GET BLAMED FOR EVERYTHING.

For well-trained youths who decide on their own to go crazy. For men who are pampered in marriage but decide to embrace infidelity. We all somehow always find a way to lay the blame at the feet of the woman. People hardly question a man who is not seen with a child after few years of marriage, most people, including the man's family members turn on the woman. It doesn't matter that their son/brother may be the one suffering from reproductive challenges.

As if that's not sad enough, the society dictates to the woman how and how long to grieve the death of a lover, even an ex-lover! Can you imagine people are trolling Ariana for not uploading a post/story to publicly mourn Miller's death. Women can not grieve on their own terms again. This is serious!

It's common knowledge that here in Nigeria, a man can get into a romantic relationship with a woman less than a year after losing his spouse to death and nobody would raise an eyebrow. But flip the script and the society will accuse the woman of having a hand in the husband's death.

Well, for those who are always so quick to begin arguments with "in saner climes", I hope they can all see that male domination is not just an African thing. Women all over the world are still taking the fall for irresponsible men.

I hope Mac Miller's fans can forgive me, I do not mean to disrespect their dead. But I think that if they can try to mourn his death without roping Ariana Grande into their ridiculous expectations of an ex, then they'll be able to successfully keep unflattering criticism away from their idol. Then he can truly rest in peace (?)

I stand with all women getting blamed for the outcome of other people's self-destructive choices.

Goodbye Mac Miller.
You have made your Mac in this temporal life.
I hope your soul finds rest.
