HERE'S WHY I VALUE RESPECT OVER LOVE

-
There are people you should not love--

They defy every standard you have set for normal people
They are not your kind of humble
They do not care to impress you
Do not care for your definition of success
Do not want to LOOK spiritual
All they know how to do is to rattle your benumbed minds

You are uncomfortable about identifying with them
So, like Nicodemus, you seek them out only at nights
They do not bear their husbands' surnames-- such arrogance!
But you rush to news sites bearing tales of their latest feats
They are divorced, what wisdom can come out of such people?
Yet you rush to buy early bird tickets to attend their seminars, before the discount window shuts against you

They do not care about your ideals
The dainty little boxes of perfection you've got carved out in your heads
To place your most loved personalities in
They don't care for you to love them
And truly, you don't love them
You can't love them
Your religiosity will not permit you
Your judgemental attitude will not allow you
The society will sneer at you, call you birds of a feather

Plus, they are even too proud
Too confident. Aren't they overconfident?
Despising all that means the world to you
All that you think must mean the world to every other person, too
They are not normal

So you don't love them
Maybe you don't hate them either
Or maybe you even do
Yet, one thing is certain--
You are not indifferent about them
You can not be
Because you long for what they are
Which you may never be
Too many stocks around your legs,
Around your mind

They are young. Forty and young. Sixty and young
They are wild. Living the truth that you can't, even in your wildest imaginations
They are free. Free from the stress of trying not to fall out of your affection

So this what you do
You respect them
Maybe grudgingly, but surely.
You have no ability in you to do less than that
So, you respect!

One of the strongest reasons many children of God turn away from Him is that they are embarrassed about how often they go back to rededicate their lives after falling into the same sin again and again. They then conclude that this "born-again Christian" life is not for them after all. Truly, it is not easy to be all prim and proper at all times — never to be caught exchanging angry words with annoying folks online, never to be seen having marital issues, never to be caught in a white lie. Went shopping for a washing machine with my uncle the other day. He'd offered to accompany me because my preferred brand was quite scarce.  On getting to the first store, we discovered the price was above my budget for that product and so we had to leave. We went to another store but the prices were even higher, so we returned to the first. "Welcome back, oga ," I heard the manager say as we arrived. Then he proceeded to ask my uncle what our final decision concerning the product we'd priced earlier was. They spoke for a while, and when we eventually got some privacy, I turned to my uncle, bemused, and asked him, "did you see what just happened?"  But he hadn't noticed anything.  Two people walk into a store.
